Actress Mika Abdalla, currently starring in the hit Hulu series Off Campus, has found true love off-screen with a familiar face. The 26-year-old star is officially engaged to former Disney Channel actor Jake Short after a romance that blossomed directly from a movie set.
The couple first crossed paths in 2022 during production for the Hulu teen comedy Sex Appeal, where they were cast to play an on-screen couple. The cinematic chemistry quickly translated into a real-life relationship almost immediately after they arrived for filming in Syracuse, New York.
Appearing on The American High Podcast, Abdalla recalled that she initially dropped by Short's room just to say hello on their first night. The co-stars ended up talking for hours to get to know each other rather than studying their scripts.
FROM ON-SCREEN COUPLE TO A REAL-LIFE ENGAGEMENT
The actress revealed that their initial spark grew later that evening when they met in her hotel room to review their lines over a glass of wine. In a sentimental twist, the couple kept that specific wine bottle from their first night and still use it in their home today as an olive oil dispenser.
The romance reached a major milestone during a return appearance on the same podcast in July 2024, when Short playfully staged a proposal to his girlfriend. The comedic moment prompted podcast host Jeremy Garelick to jokingly label it the most romantic proposal in history.
The relationship became official in May 2025 when Short’s longtime talent manager, Brian Medavoy, publicly announced their formal engagement on social media. Medavoy congratulated the couple on Instagram, stating that watching their journey transition from the movie set to real life had been an absolute joy.
THE RISING CAREER OF A DISNEY ALUM
Short was born on May 30, 1997, in Indianapolis and relocated to California at just nine years old to aggressively pursue a career in the entertainment industry. He initially fell into the profession because of his brother, who originally wanted to act but quickly lost interest while Short discovered a lifelong passion for the craft.
The actor achieved mainstream fame for his breakout role as Fletcher Quimby on the Disney Channel series A.N.T. Farm, which aired from 2011 to 2014. His performance on the network earned him the prestigious Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award for Favorite TV Actor in 2012.
Since his Disney days, the actor has successfully transitioned into adult roles, appearing in critically acclaimed projects such as Lessons in Chemistry and the hit drama series 9-1-1. Industry insiders note that his successful career path ultimately led him straight to his future wife, who continues to build her own successful profile in Hollywood.
