Tom Holland Hints at Marvel Exit: Wants to Train Next Spider-Man Before “Cruising Off”

LOS ANGELES — Hollywood star Tom Holland has opened up about his future as Spider-Man, dropping major hints about a potential farewell to the iconic web-slinger.

The actor is set to return to the big screen as Peter Parker in the highly anticipated blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day, releasing on July 31, 2026. In a candid new interview with Empire magazine, Holland made it clear that he does not intend to wear the famous superhero suit forever.

However, the actor emphasized that he wants to remain involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to guide the next generation of heroes. He expressed a strong desire to help build the next chapter for whoever steps into the role next, specifically mentioning characters like Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Woman.

WALKING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF IRON MAN

Holland was particularly reflective when discussing a passing of the torch, drawing inspiration from his real-life mentor, Robert Downey Jr., who originally introduced Holland’s character to the Marvel franchise.

The actor explained that he is unsure exactly what the transition will look like. He stated that if he could replicate what Downey did for him by supporting a newcomer, he would be completely happy to cruise off into the sunset.

Beyond his performance on screen, Holland took a significantly more active role behind the scenes for the upcoming installment. He revealed to the magazine that he regularly attended creative meetings with studio producers to pitch and develop narrative concepts for the project.

SPIDER-PUBERTY INSPIRES THE FINAL SCRIPT

Holland shared that his initial story pitch to the studio was titled Spider-Puberty. The concept explored the chaotic aftermath of what happens when Peter Parker loses control of his abilities and his life begins to change drastically.

While Marvel executives initially rejected the premise, the core thematic elements of Holland’s pitch ultimately made their way into the final shooting script.

The upcoming film features a star-studded ensemble cast. Alongside Holland, longtime co-star Zendaya returns as MJ, while Hollywood veterans Jon Bernthal and Sadie Sink join the franchise. The movie is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, with a screenplay penned by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
